
Evening Chanting
Short chanting passages can be helpful for those who wish to chant but may not have much time or find it difficult to sit and chant for long periods. They allow for peaceful and convenient practice.

Begin the Chanting
Prostrate to the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha (3 times), then begin the following recitations:

Loving-Kindness Chant to Oneself

Ahaṃ sukhito homi — May I be happy.
Niddukkho homi — Free from suffering.
Avero homi — Free from enmity.
Abyāpajjho homi — Free from danger and harm.
Anīgho homi — Free from physical and mental pain.
Sukhī attānaṃ pariharāmi — May I live happily and protect myself from all dangers.

Sabbē sattā — All beings who share in suffering, birth, aging, sickness, and death:

Averā hontu — May they be happy, free from enmity.
Abyāpajjhā hontu — May they be happy, free from harm and ill-will.
Anīghā hontu — May they be free from physical and mental suffering.
Sukhī attānaṃ pariharantu — May they live happily and care for themselves, free from all dangers.

Sharing of Merit (Pattidāna)
1. To Parents
Itaṃ me mātāpitūnaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu mātāpitaro.
May this merit accrue to my parents; may they be happy.
2. To Relatives
Itaṃ me ñātīnaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu ñātayo.
May this merit accrue to my relatives; may they be happy.
3. To Teachers & Mentors
Itaṃ me gurūpajjhāyācariyānaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu gurūpajjhāyācariyā.
May this merit accrue to my teachers and mentors; may they be happy.
4. To All Devas (Celestial Beings)
Itaṃ sabba-devatānaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu sabbe devā.
May this merit accrue to all celestial beings; may they be happy.
5. To All Petas (Hungry Ghosts)
Itaṃ sabba-petānaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu sabbe petā.
May this merit accrue to all departed beings; may they be happy.
6. To All Enemies & Debtors (Kamma Holders)
Itaṃ sabba-verīnaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu sabbe verī.
May this merit accrue to all karmic creditors and enemies; may they be happy.
7. To All Beings
Itaṃ sabba-sattānaṃ hotu, sukhitā hontu sabbe sattā.
May this merit accrue to all beings; may all beings be happy.
